Position Summary:

Working with the Business Development team, the Research Intern: Funding Mechanisms & Proposal Development will have an opportunity to meaningfully contribute to DT Institute's business and proposal development efforts. The Intern will have exposure to strategic planning and execution of various areas of donor-funded international development initiatives.

The Intern will report directly to the Senior Business Development Manager and will also work closely with the VP for Business Development and Communications, other team members, technical teams, PMU members, and HQ support staff as needed.

Primary Functions & Responsibilities: The Intern will lead research on the European Union's funding mechanisms for grants including their requirements and solicitation details such as opening date, qualifications, previous mechanism holders, etc. Funding mechanisms will be mapped against DT Institute's priority countries and technical areas including stabilization, transition, peacebuilding, media, technology, human rights, economic growth, and environmental sustainability to provide an overview of opportunities DT Institute should consider. The funding map will help inform DT Institute's EU strategy moving forward. The Intern will support other Business Development initiatives as needed and will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of BD functions including proposal design sessions and BD meetings.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. or have a student visa;

  • Grade point average of 3.2 or higher preferred;

  • At least 18 years of age prior to the scheduled start date;

  • Experience working with or knowledge of European Union funding mechanisms;

  • Demonstrable research experience in a related field (international relations, international development, EU foreign policy, etc.);

  • Experience producing professional level reports in a related field (international relations, international development, EU foreign policy, etc.);

  • At least one year of experience in a related field such as international relations, international development, EU foreign policy, etc. (relevant coursework, internships, and volunteer experience will be accepted);

  • Be currently enrolled in or have been accepted to an accredited college, university, or course of study towards an advanced degree in Political Science, International Relations, International Development, Peace and Conflict Studies, Law degree, or similar field of study; and

  • Masters degree or equivalent experience strong preferred.

Requirements:

  • Basic knowledge of and experience with Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint skills;

  • Knowledge and experience with professional written communication;

  • Strong written and oral communication skills;

  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills;

  • Self-motivated and dynamic with a willingness and ability to use initiative to assist the organization to achieve its objectives;

  • The highly developed sense of ethics and integrity; and

  • Ability to work under pressure with tight deadlines, flexibility and to respond in a timely manner to queries and provide feedback.
