Location Information
Five Star Senior Living's corporate headquarters are located in Newton, Massachusetts. Just 20 minutes outside of downtown Boston, the building features easy access to public transportation and the Massachusetts Turnpike.
Key Responsibilities

FUNCTION: Manage safety awareness programs and automobile accident and liability claims in furtherance of the goals of the Safety and Risk Management Department. Maintain, prepare and distribute Workers’ Compensation data and claims reports. Manage awareness program rollouts, monitor activities and report results.

QUALIFICATIONS: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and or/or ability required.

Education and/or Experience:

  • 5+ years experience in a managerial, administrative or support role in a large organization (healthcare experience preferred).
  • Minimum of Associates Degree; Bachelors preferred.
  • Experience in database management, producing reports, analyzing data and creating spreadsheets.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office programs, Access and PowerPoint. Familiarity with other systems such as Dimitri, a plus.
  • Must be able to work in a fast paced environment and demonstrate ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to handle and treat confidential information appropriately.
  • Must demonstrate organizational skills, attention to detail and accuracy in composing and producing all materials.
  • Must have high level of interpersonal skills to interact with internal and external individuals at all levels within the organization.

INTERPERSONAL SKILLS: Demonstrates active listening techniques, gains support through effective relationships, treats others with dignity and respect and seeks feedback.

COMMUNICATION: Must be able to effectively communicate and explain policies, procedures and programs and must have the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Must be able to communicate adequately in written and oral English and to communicate effectively in an interdisciplinary setting.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure of weights, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to solve problems related to position and leadership situations. Ability to analyze data, reports, business documentation and problems and develop workable solutions and goals. Ability to interpret and implement written or oral programs, goals, objectives, policies, and procedures of the Department.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serves as liaison for the field on all issues relating to workers’ compensation, automobile accidents, safety awareness programs and safety related issues.
  • Manages automobile accident and liability claims, including advising and collecting information from field employees, assisting with resolution, reporting to and interfacing with Third Party Administrator on significant and litigated matters. .
  • Manages and promotes safety awareness programs, including without limitation, Safe Resident Movement, Mechanical Lifting Devices, Safety Committee/Awareness, Vehicle and Driver Safety, Workplace Violence and the Zero Accident Contest (“ZAC”) Program.
    • ZAC Program administration includes monthly and periodic tracking and calculations, distribution of awards and working with the field on communication and recognition of the program. Works with Director of Safety and Risk Management on Safety Committee programs, including collecting and maintaining minutes from safety meetings and tracking compliance in the field.
  • Supports newly acquired buildings with materials and trainings to ensure smooth transition for claims reporting.
  • Develops and processes regularly scheduled reports and custom requests for Director of Safety and Risk Management, Regional Human Resources Directors, and others, as needed.
  • Produces monthly financial (workers’ compensation loss and invoice) summary reports and works closely with Finance Department on specialized reporting.
  • Establishes and manages excel spreadsheets/workbooks with ability to link, roll-up and consolidate reports.
  • Coordinates quarterly claims reviews with Third Party Administrators.
  • Manages and updates policies and procedures.
  • Performs some administrative support to include: internal and external faxes and mail handling, manage departmental files and department related documents, develop department specific forms/checklists, copying and document production and coordinating meetings/travel plans as needed.
  • Performs special projects as needed.
