Senior Electrical Engineer
 PURPOSE:
  • In this role as Senior Electrical Engineer, you will bring to the team your hands-on electro-mechanical systems experience creating and developing unique solutions in automation, machine & process control, and equipment engineering to advance our most challenging projects.  This role is primarily research and development with varying day-to-day activities focused on problem solving to deliver transformative technologies to improve our production methods and product quality.  You will use your creativity and apply your technical skills to design and build working prototypes for proof-of-concept and early product development projects.  You will have the opportunity to learn new technical skills to advance your knowledge and deliver project objectives.  You will collaborate with a very talented team of engineers and scientists developing the overall project objectives and executing the plan. 
  •  You will challenge existing methods and develops improvements for higher throughput, higher quality, and improved integration with existing production methods.
  • You will support and help lead cross functional engineering and science teams with hands-on role in the design, development, constructing, and documentation of mechanical and electrical systems from the prototyping/validation stage through implementation/deployment.

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The primary responsibilities of this role, Senior Electrical Engineer, are to:
  • Responsible for and helps lead the design and develop of mechanical and electrical systems for domestic and international laboratory, production, and agricultural environments.
  • Responsible for and helps lead the research of new technologies and recommends technical innovation in machine/system architecture, control methodologies, and industrial/lab automation.
  • Supports and helps lead project planning and design, estimating resources, timeline and cost as well as creating functional requirements, engineering drawings, test plans, technical reports, and operational documents.
  • Construct working prototypes to validate performance compared to requirements.
  • Design and development activities include leading, participating, coordinating, and supporting planning, concept, design and execution stages, safety and design risk assessments, prototyping/testing, design reviews, verification & validation.
  • Work closely with other discipline engineering and science teams to develop concepts and innovative solutions.
  • Work closely with matrix team members, support staff, and manufacturing teams in machine/system operation to ensure design is transferable to production sites.
  • Document intellectual property and create patent applications.
  • Collaborates with Safety departments to comply with company and industry safety and design standards.
  • Identify and form partnerships with external fabrication suppliers and component vendors.

 Required qualifications:
  • BS. in Electrical Engineering or related engineering field.
  • Technical contributor throughout the design and development project stages.
  • Experience constructing complex mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Experience designing electrical and electronic systems for machinery, equipment, or automation applications.
  • Experience designing, selection and application of controllers (PLC, microcontroller, PC-Based), power distribution, electrical panel design and layout, transducers / sensors, digital / analog signal interface, motor drives / controllers and machine components.
  • Experience using electrical test equipment; digital multimeters, oscilloscopes, process meters, logic analyzers, etc.
  • Experience with professional level CAD software.
  • Experience in designing for reliability and manufacturability.
  • Strong knowledge and experience with engineering principles and procedures that apply to machine design, machine safety and machine risk assessment.
  • Experience with documentation of designs, design changes, and validation results.
  • Taking initiative, identifying new methods and approaches, and challenging current methods of working.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize multiple projects and tasks.
  • Strong mathematical, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Experience using standard office productivity software; Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
  • Willingness to travel up to 20% of time.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • 7+ years of engineering experience
  • Printed circuit board design and layout.
  • Programming and using single-board microcontrollers/computers.
  • Programming with higher-level languages.
  • Proficiency using AutoCAD and ORCAD.
  • PLC and HMI programming experience.  Preferred experience with Rockwell Automation PLC platforms: RSLogix 5000, Studio 5000 and HMI development software: FactoryTalk View Studio SE/ME, Studio 5000 View Designer.
  • Experience with coordinated motion control, controller setup and tuning, stepper motors, servo motors, pneumatics, and hydraulics.
  • Imaging system and image processing.
