Primary Responsibilities

HDR is seeking a Geotechnical EIT/Designer to support our expanding civil works section within our Pennsylvania and Ohio offices. This individual will be a member of the multi-disciplinary, PA/OH/WV Water Group team and perform geotechnical engineering for local and national dams, levees, and civil works projects as well as performing geotechnical engineering for other infrastructure projects.

The candidate will have experience in the field of geotechnical engineering analysis and design with a focus on hydraulic structures under USACE and/or FERC geotechnical design criteria. In the role of Geotechnical EIT you will:

Primary Duties:

  • Work under the direction of a licensed PE and be responsible for the geotechnical analysis and design of water infrastructure projects principally including earthen embankment dams, levees, underseepage mitigation features, and soil and rock slopes. Evaluation of features may also include, but is not limited to roadways, raining walls, bridges and building foundations.
  • Review boring logs, laboratory data and design plans for a variety of geotechnical tasks such as slope stability, settlement analysis, construction recommendations, etc.;
  • Work on shallow and deep foundation design, such as driven piles and drilled shafts;
  • Provide project specific analysis of liquefaction potential with seismic considerations, slide remediation, ground improvement, and others;
  • Prepare drawings, specifications, and foundation reports for geotechnical projects, and be expected to coordinate with project managers to implement measures to successfully meet all project goals and objectives;
  • Travel is required to perform project work on an as-needed basis; and
  • This position will focus primarily on water projects (dams, levees, and civil works).
  • Perform other duties as needed.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • BS Civil Engineering or Geotechnical Engineering required.
  • EIT or ability to obtain within 12 months. Candidates hired without their EIT will have the title "Geotechnical Designer".
  • Experience with MS Office and software applications.
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Familiarity with geotechnical engineering software (GeoStudios, Ensoft, GRLWEAP, gINT).
  • Previous geotechnical-related engineering experience.
  • Local candidates are preferred.

The expected compensation range for this position is $60,265 - $81,535 annually depending upon skills, experience, education and geographical location.
