Primary Responsibilities

HDR is looking for a senior water resources engineer to join our Water Resources team in Sacramento, CA. Candidates for the position should have experience in hydrologic and hydraulic modeling and analysis, with a focus on water supply modeling, flood modeling, and H&H in support of civil design. Our clients include local, state, and federal agencies.

Our team is growing and have a range of challenging and innovating projects. We work within multi-disciplinary teams on projects related to flood management, water supply, FERC relicensing, and ecological enhancements, providing hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, including hydrology development and analysis; 1D/2D/3D hydraulic/hydrodynamic modeling, FEMA flood insurance studies, drainage analysis and design, erosion analysis, and sediment transport. The preferred candidate would have experience in a combination of these subject areas.

Skills such as task management, scripting (such as VBA, Jython/Python, or WRESL) and GIS, technical writing, and/or experience with HEC software (such as HEC-SSP, HEC-HMS, HEC-ResSim and both HEC-RAS 1D and 2D), planning studies, alternatives analysis, H&H in support of drainage studies or civil design would be considered beneficial.

The candidate is expected to be a key part of project delivery teams; mentor junior staff; manage small- to medium-sized projects; and effectively interact with clients and peers. Candidates should be able to work independently, but also enjoy working in a collaborative team environment. The candidate must have strong writing skills and good internal review processes. Candidate will perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering
  • Minimum of 10 years Water Resources experience
  • Professional Engineering License
  • Experience with developing 1D and 2D river hydraulics models for riverine situations, such as: floodplain modeling including urban areas; dam safety studies; canal systems; and modeling hydraulic structures (bridges, culverts, weirs, spillways, levees, etc...)
  • Experience in reviewing hydraulic models and QC of engineering calculations
  • Strong communication and listening skills, including the ability to talk to clients
  • Ability to handle multiple assignments
  • Good leadership and organizational skills
  • Mentor young engineers
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must

Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters degree in Civil/Environmental or Water Resources Engineering
  • Experience with sediment transport modeling and/or erosion control analyses.
  • Experience performing risk and uncertainty analyses of hydrologic analyses.
  • Advanced 1D and 2D modeling of complex hydraulic settings.

The expected compensation range for this position is $119,273.00 - $170,390.00 annually depending upon skills, experience, education and geographical location.
